Framed: No. 1
Frame Series #1 © Emily Porter
This image is the beginning of my project called Framed. I would like to take memorable moments and show them in actual vintage photograph frames. The frames will emulate the photograph and symbolize a moment in time that is intriguing to the viewer and allows them to create a narrative based on the individual. As a finished product I hope to convey a sense of memories that were once scattered but have been brought back together to create a cohesive thought.

After speaking with one of my professors I decided to take a different approach to my "spirit" series. I enjoyed working on this image quite a bit more...and I am still fond of square format... I am also working on a project that consists of gathering at least thirty different vintage picture frames.....very excited about this installation and how it will look in the end (hopefully exactly how it looks in my head...or better).

This photograph is from a new series I am working on that is inspired by the book "Spook" by Mary Roach, which is about science tackling the afterlife. Highly recommend reading this book! Reading this novel helped me through the death of my best friend as well as a family member. After reading, I started wondering...energy....defined as a person's spirit or vigor....where does it go when we are not in our bodies anymore? Energy can never be extinguished so it has to go somewhere. Through these series of photographs I try to capture the energy, if you will, by taking long exposures of people doing mundane everyday tasks.
