Collaboration et Inspirations

I believe that this year is going to be one of my best. I began a collaboration with photographers Emily Johnson and Alec Schuppel. We will be keeping journals with entries as well as photographs in each. I am excited to see what we will end up with! ...

I also was recently asked to show my work at the Foxglove gallery here in milwaukee. Tomorrow MOMA....hopefully...all in good time.

My inspiration at the moment is the book Just Kids by Patti Smith. This book is simply amazing and brings you back to a time when she was young and in love with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. It makes one realize how much artists can influence each other and how anyone can make it if you just believe in yourself and never stop creating.

I will be posting new imagery quite soon! just need to develop!

My Professional Practices class had designer Patrick Castro create a book with our final series of photographs. It turned out to be quite an impressive photography book. I was quite excited when I saw one of my photographs on the cover along with Marta and Julia. I like seeing my photographs in a book!

Starting fresh..

Shadows on your Birthday © Emily Porter

I end today free from the burden of my past. I except what has happened and move forward to improve my life and give love to those around me who have been with me through thick and thin. It is unbelievable how much people or relationships can change with time. When I look back it becomes bittersweet, the people I once knew are now strangers to me. Moving forward with experience that has forever changed me, I intend to make the best of this year. I start a collaboration with two other photographers (Emily Johnson and Alec Schuppel) tomorrow which I am quite excited about and believe it will strengthen my work.

I carry your heart © Emily Porter

I feel as though I am doomed to love you forever.
It makes me sick. I carry the pain of loving you
and yet you do nothing, feel nothing. I will go through
life always feeling this way, it will not leave me. You enter
my thoughts constantly and I try to dismiss them, but it makes
the pain worse.

I carry your heart, I carry it in my heart.

Self portrait 2009 (20) © Emily Porter

I have decided, like so many photographers, to take self portraits on my birthday each year, simply to see a difference with aging. This is my second year doing this life long project that I feel will develop into quite an interesting series.

Encased Thought

Encased Thought © Emily Porter

These images reflect on moments in life, that I believe every individual experiences. I try to convey a sense of oneself through the images through hiding the identity of the individuals, therefore it could be anyone. Experience is everything in ones life. It develops who we will be in our lives and creates memories as well as behaviors that mold the person we inevitably become. I want to show the moments that I feel every woman goes through, that moment of realization of ones life, and their surroundings. That moment of “awe” when viewing the image has passed, of the world we are surrounded by, and experience every day.
