Noir Class

                                                                  © Jessica Kaminski

My Film Noir class has a noir inspired show at the gallery Plaid Tuba in the third ward.  With the help of our professor, Jessica Kaminski our show was a success.  My series was a look into the relationship of the two characters: the femme fatale and the antihero.

Recently I was asked to show my work on the online publication site: UntitledCereal.  I am excited I was able to be apart of this publication.   www.untitledcereal.com

Currently I am experimenting with diptychs.  I am still working through the meaning behind these.

Fall...Milwaukee...New York

all images  © Emily Porter

My senior year has so far been more than crazy.  I am working almost all the time on my art work or my job.  Fall break is coming up and a few of my colleagues and I are going to New York.  I am very excited to get away from Milwaukee for a while and clear my thoughts.  I am currently interning at The Green Gallery East as well.  This gallery is an amazing contribution to the Milwaukee Art scene.  They show a range of work from artists around the country.

I have begun the start of my senior year at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.  I am more than excited to see what work my collegeus and I will create over the next year.
A few I enjoy following:

This is the beginning of a new project I am starting based around how relationships change you and how you can loose yourself in them.  These few images are the rough start of the series.  I had a shoot with the gorgeous Heather, who I have never photographed before and was pleased to work with.  I have another shoot tonight with another new model and I am quite excited to see how this series plays out.  My senior year is extremely hectic but seems to be good for me....excited.

I just recently moved into a new apartment with my younger sister. The first thing i noticed was the intense yellow light that streamed through the windows around sunset. I love it.

I have been following Clare Elsaesser's work for a few years now on her more than successful Etsy page. Her paintings are incredibly emotive and the strokes are strong and moving. I love her use of soft color and lighting and continue to be amazed at each painting she produces. She was also shown on Etsy's blog as a featured seller: http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2010/featured-seller-tastesorangey/

Simply gorgeous work.....

I love books....Inspiration

A big part of my inspiration comes from the books I read. Life would not be complete without a good book, cup of tea, and my cats... Currently I have been reading a novel by Carey Wallace, actually her first novel, The Blind Contessa's New Machine. So far it is brilliant. I love when literature thrusts you into a different mindset and makes you think about the world or even emotions in a unique perspective. Definitely recommend this novel.

Many new and exciting things are happening in my life. This week I am developing all my film that is waiting for me in the bottom of my drawer. I also recently met up with an old friend who is writing an impressive novel (that I have no doubt in my mind will get published) and is co creator of toastmilwaukee, which is an online site that gives you details of the city, Milwaukee. www.toastmilwaukee.com

Final print for the Paris Trip Exhibition that will be up at MIAD in August. These images (except the last one) is inspired by Constantine Brancussi's, Sleeping Muse. I wanted to modernize it and make it my own. I can not wait for all my summer classes to be over so I can start doing my own thing and develop all my film. I will post the final images for the muse inspiration project as soon as I choose one image from all the shoots. My model and friend, Alec Schuppel, is an amazing photographer who is always willing to help me out with shoots.
